Earlier today (August 6), AI music company Suno sent out an industry update titled “How We’re Building the Future of Music Responsibly,” which Digital Music News covered here. Among its outlined plans and transparency-related guidelines, Suno emphasized its partnerships with song identification services Audible Magic and Musixmatch. But an earlier version of Suno’s press release included a partnership that was omitted from the final draft.

Initially, the statement mentioned partnerships with Audible Magic, Musixmatch, and ACRCloud, but the latter was strangely absent from the updated version sent to Digital Music News a few minutes later. When asked for clarification, Suno insisted that the partnership hadn’t changed, even though the announcement had.

However, ACRCloud lists tons of partners on its website.

It’s also interesting that Suno has partnerships with three different detection systems, even if only two are publicly disclosed. But it’s a crucial time for Suno to prove it’s doing everything it can to toe the line in terms of copyright, as it battles multiple high-stakes copyright suits.

Meanwhile, Suno is adding lots of new features such as “audio watermarking” and a “new downloads policy designed to limit the ability to mass distribute songs on streaming platforms.” The company is shoring up to accommodate “a healthy music ecosystem” in the hopes of securing more licensing agreements beyond Warner Music Group.

Suno is expected to unveil additional changes in “the coming weeks,” while also rolling out new audio watermarking and fingerprinting tech. This, Suno says, will enable the company to “partner more closely with distribution platforms on combating fraud and misuse.”
