Why reject a technology that helps police quickly locate vehicles reportedly used in serious crimes? Foes of automated license plate readers are largely united around a single objection: privacy. Republican and Democratic members of Congress, including Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, have taken up the cause, urged on by a host of advocacy groups.

I have a better idea to protect motorists’ privacy: pass a law allowing people to cover their license plates- problem solved. It doesn’t cost anything and there is:no need to police the police agencies.

I forget if it was just Chicago or Illinois as a whole, but they were talking about passing a law that would prohibit the police from stopping someone if there were no plates on the car. This being Illinois, there would probably be an exemption if police thought the car was being driven by a sovereign citizen…then you could stop it.
i believe Benjamin Franklin addressed this issue perfectly several hundred of years ago when he said:
“Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

What make and model did he drive? I’m sure that he had a valid license, registration, up to date insurance and no heavily tinted windows, etc. Yep, I’ll bet old Ben was a very good, rules of the road abiding driver.
