The rules governing the minimum weight of pro bikes have stood firm for more than a quarter of a century now. Given manufacturing and technological advances since then, is it time for a rethink?

What’s the current situation?
For the past 26 years, article 1.3.019 of the UCI’s technical regulations has specified that ‘the weight of the bicycle cannot be less than 6.8kg… to ensure both the safety of riders and the fairness of competition while at the same time making the most of the advantages that technological evolution can bring to cycling’.
