When she was in college, my mother took some classes in early childhood development and psychology not because she was planning to major in that field - she took them because she knew she wanted to have kids and thought that would prepare her. Even so, there were still things my brother and I did that she didn't know what the hell to do about - because my brother and I are individuals, and there is no one single system anywhere that will ever tell you what to do about every single last thing when it comes to how to interact with another unique individual.
