• Ford is introducing a new base engine in the F-150 pickup truck for the 2027 model year, a dealership order guide revealed.
• The twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 has been replaced by the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, which is also found in the Explorer, Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor.
• The 5.0-liter V-8 is now offered in the King Ranch and Platinum models too, which previously only came with the 3.5-liter V-6 in hybrid or nonhybrid forms.

Ford is gearing up to rejigger the F-150's engine lineup. The incredibly popular pickup truck—which, when combined with the Super Duty, is the bestselling vehicle in the United States—was last refreshed for the 2024 model year, after the truck's 14th generation launched in 2021. It's unclear if the engine changes will be accompanied by styling tweaks as well, but a dealership order guide has now revealed that the F-150 is receiving a new base engine for 2027, along with expanded V-8 availability.

The F-150 currently offers a 325-hp twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 as the entry-level engine, but it appears that is set to change for the 2027 model year. According to the dealership tool, the F-150 will swap out the EcoBoost 2.7-liter V-6 for the EcoBoost 3.0-liter V-6. The 3.0-liter also has twin turbos and is derived from the 2.7-liter V-6.

This engine is currently employed by the Ford Explorer; it's standard on the ST and Tremor trims and optional on the Platinum. It can also be found under the hood of the Lincoln Aviator, Ford Ranger Raptor, and Bronco Raptor. In the Explorer, it cranks out 400 horsepower, while it makes 405 ponies in the Ranger Raptor, and 418 hp in the Bronco Raptor. In the Aviator, it produces 383 hp.

While we expect the 3.0-liter to out-punch the outgoing 2.7-liter, we're not sure it will quite reach the 400-hp threshold in the F-150, since that would make it step on the toes of the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 and the 5.0-liter V-8, both of which produce an even 400 hp and remain available for 2027. The order guide doesn't list horsepower outputs, so we will have to wait to see where this engine lands in the F-150's horsepower hierarchy.

Speaking of the V-8, the 5.0-liter will now be available on more trims for 2027. While the King Ranch and Platinum models were previously only available with the 3.5-liter V-6, either in gas-only or hybrid form, the F-150's most luxurious variants will now also offer the V-8, presumably with the same 400-hp output as other F-150s.

The EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 hybrid powertrain also remains available for the 2027 model year. The order guide shows three new colors for the F-150 in 2027: Birch Sand, Neptune Blue, and Wild Green. Three paint colors from 2026 depart the lineup: Antimatter Blue, Argon Blue, and Avalanche. We reached out to Ford for comment on the changes to the 2027 F-150 and will update this story if we hear back. More information on the 2027 F-150 should emerge in the coming months.
